Doing the DIY...

No home improvement stuff for me ~ that's B's department.

I am talking handmade F.O.O.D...
It's here in the burbs that I've had the chance to explore baking, juicing, roasting more edible goodies.

What's the inspiration?
Perhaps it's the extra counter space?  Sunlight drenched kitchen?
Having markets nearby that have excellent produce?

Let's start with my latest obsession : juicing.
Get a jumpstart on the day with an energizing elixir of apple, kale, carrot, and ginger juice.
Or juice whatever produce is in the vegetable bin...
which can sometimes yield interesting results.
If the vegetable combination tastes a bit on the earthy side, sweeten it up with a bunch of apples.

Prep the fruit and vegetables the night before to minimize the morning routine workload.
Send all of it through a Breville juicer, pour the nectar into a glass, give it a good stir, and bottoms up!

Barefoot at the beach...

in March?!

We've been taking plenty advantage of the warmish weekends to be off season beach bums...
can't help but wonder what awaits us this summer.

In the meantime, we are grooving with these record high temperatures of
60 degrees plus...

Not a peep out here in the burbs...

to celebrate the Giants Superbowl victory over the Pats!

Thinking back to the Giants last win at the Superbowl XLII in 2008...we were living in Brooklyn.
Cars a honking, illegal fireworks, confetti filled the air, cheers cheers cheers...

Perhaps my neighbors were instead tuned into PBS's Downton Abbey that night....
or could they have been rooting for the Pats?

The art of winterizing...

has been somewhat of a challenge this winter.

"I'm toooooooo hot!", M whines as we go down the front steps.
I look at him and realize that once again, I've piled on one layer too many on this kid.
And on myself as well.
Which would make sense if we were going out for a brisk walk to run some errands.

Not today, my friends.
We are heading to the car to drive to the super supermarket.
Surely, we don't need to be wearing three layers along with a scarf, gloves, and hat to walk from the house to the driveway and then from the car to Stop-n-Shop.
All ridiculously short distances.

Rewind to January 2011:
Snowstorms galore. Not yet driving.
So we walked.
In the stores, I noticed that no other shoppers were really bundled up.
No scarves, hats, and gloves?
I was perplexed but didn't give it much more thought.
Until now.

Fast forward to January 2012.
Chillier winter temperatures have arrived.
Now that I am one of them suburbanites who drive ~
I get it.
Winterizing with less layers makes PERFECT sense.

Although now and again, I slip up and we both end up over insulated ~
this is the part where M breaks a sweat and becomes bearish.
Oh boy. How to avoid such heated meltdowns?

As L is driving us to Target one day, I spot the most OBVIOUS solution ~
just leave the coat and outer things in the car.
Happier days are on the horizon for M.

As for me, I guess it's a nod to my urban roots to wear it all out the door.
